Deer Creek, Oklahoma - Real Estate & Information
The Deer Creek neighborhood within the Oklahoma City metropolitan area is widely recognized, although it is not technically a city or a town. The community takes its name from the creek that winds its way through the area. Deer Creek is located in a desirable part of suburban Oklahoma City that has seen a steady rise of new home additions since the district’s founding in 1921.
The Deer Creek School District covers an enormous area spreading across 72 square miles. The District’s administrative headquarters are in the affluent Oklahoma City suburb of Edmond. There are a total of six schools – four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school - which provide public education for approximately 3,741 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12.

Location, Location, Location
Most, if not all, of the homes that locals would consider to be located in Deer Creek (due to their location near the school district) actually have an Edmond mailing address. Homes with large acreage may have begun the general development of the Deer Creek residential neighborhood; however, as the school district expanded so did the rest of the Deer Creek community. This has led to the construction of comparatively smaller houses and lots.
Further modernization of the neighborhood can be seen in the variety of exclusive, gated communities - such as Rose Creek and Gaillardia - that have popped up over the past eight years or so.
Located only 25 minutes from Will Rogers World Airport and several top-notch medical and health care centers, Deer Creek has the number one quality that most urban and suburban neighborhoods promise but rarely deliver: a quiet rural aura and serene lifestyle located just minutes from the city.
History
The generally accepted zone in which the Deer Creek neighborhood sprawls is the border between Logan and Oklahoma counties. The Deer Creek School District sprung to life in 1921 when portions of the region were sold for the purpose of building the district’s first school.
This inaugural school was built during the nation’s Great Depression, thanks primarily to funds from the federal Works Project Administration, in the district’s southeastern quadrant in an unincorporated section of Oklahoma County. Today, the single-story, brick school would be near the confluence of North MacArthur Boulevard and West 206th Street.
If you could travel back in time and take a brief tour of this school, you would see about 12 classrooms, a gymnasium and a fairly small library. While the original schoolhouse is long gone, the trees that shaded it remain rooted in the land that surrounded it. Also, bricks from the school’s facade were used to beautify the current high school's auditorium.
The first school to break away from the original site was Prairie Vale Elementary School. It’s currently located adjacent to Edmond’s western border and Oklahoma City’s northwestern boundary line.
Deer Creek High School has undergone some dramatic changes during the past 50 years. An adjacent building that used to be part of Deer Creek Middle School became a new addition to the high school after the middle school moved. The connecting structure between the main high school and former middle school contains a new cafeteria and a number of classrooms.
Three Deer Creek schools – Deer Creek High School, Deer Creek Middle School and Deer Creek Prairie Vale – have won the Blue Ribbon School award, which is generally considered to be the highest honor that the nation’s Education Department can award a primary or secondary school.
